E komo mai! Welcome to the Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce

For 51 years, the Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce (NHCC) has been dedicated to advancing Native Hawaiians in commerce. Founded in 1974 by visionary leaders like Ed Auld, Charles Scott Ho‘olulu May, and Melvin Kaipoleimanu Soong, NHCC was created to uplift Native Hawaiian business professionals and entrepreneurs, ensuring they had the resources and recognition needed to thrive.

The pandemic nearly brought our organization to an end in 2022, but with the commitment of our board, NHCC pivoted, transitioning from a working board to a full-time Executive Director role, with a mission to rebuild and reengineer the organization in alignment with the rapidly changing landscape to thrive in our rapidly evolving business environment. I was honored to step into this role on August 15, 2022, having previously served as a director and chair of the communications committee until 2019.

Today, NHCC is focused on elevating and accelerating the long-term success of Native Hawaiian businesspeople, owners, entrepreneurs, and startups through impactful programs through Project Ho'omana. This includes:

Ho‘omana – Our signature cohort designed to equip micro and small businesses with essential tools for success, including brand identity, effective marketing, and investor-ready business planning.
Economic Insights & Conferences – Providing quarterly and annual reports on Native Hawaiian business trends.
Networking & Workshops – Fostering opportunities to connect, learn, and grow.
The ‘Ō‘ō Awards – Celebrating 48 years of honoring Native Hawaiians who have devoted their lives to uplifting the Lāhui.

SInce we began this new initiative, we have reached nearly 1,000 people since September 2024. We have only just begun.
